Wii: Virtual Console – Europe – Friday June 13th, 2008

On Friday June 13th, 2008, Europe got five Virtual Console games to download on Nintendo Wii. And one of my favourite Master System games was one of them; Alex Kidd in Miracle World.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Master System – 1987 – Sega – platformer – 1 player – 500 points – age 7+

Take on the role of Alex Kidd in this cheesy 80s plaformer. As Alex, your goal is to seek out your lost brother, Egle, who has been kidnapped by the nefarious Janken the Great.

Your heroic journy to free Egle will pit you against not just monsters, but four of Janken’s villainous henchmen. However, there’s a catch – you will have to defeat them using the age-old game Rock-paper-scissors!

Put your skills and quick wits to the test as you run, swim and punc your way through 16 exciting and action-packed levels!

Note: This game is presented as it was originaly released in 1986. Modifications included in the Sega Master System “built-in” version are not reflected int his release.

Fatal Fury 2
NeoGeo – 1992 – D4 Enterprise – fighting – 1-2 players – 900 points – age 12+

In the groundbreaking second instalment in SNK’s wildy popular fighting game series, Terry, Andy and Joe reprise their roles from the first Fatal Fury, while another five distinctive challengers emerge to complete for the coveted championship title.

This game adds a novel dynamic to the health system – when a fighter’s strength bar decreases to the point where it is blinking red, they can unleasd a desperation technique. Giving you the power to turn the tide of the battle. the unique 2D plane format, a popular feature of the first game, has also been radicaly enhanced, allowing characters to jump freely between foreground and background, or force their oponent between planes.

Revolutionary gameplay features, colourful graphics and an engaging sountrack combine to make Fatal Fury 2 a must-have for any fighting gamer’s collection! Are you ready to be the king of fighters? Get in the ring!
